WELLNESS WEDNESDAY: SKIN CARE TIPS
This week, Wellness Wednesday (Thursday) was about skin care: the products I use everyday and some tips on how to achieve and maintain good skin. In this blog post, I'm going to tell you a little bit about how I use each product I mentioned in WW, and links to each product if you're interested in trying them out. With all that out of the way, let's get into the products!
MY EVERYDAY SKIN CARE PRODUCTS
Daily cleanser: philosophy purity made simple 3-in-1 cleanser
You will have seen this in at least one previous skin care related post, as I've been using it consistently since about July. I used to use it when I was a young teenager (eye roll) and for some reason, got away from it. After hating my skin and not having a consistent routine for quite a while, I decided to get serious and came back to this product. I use this cleanser twice a day, every single day, morning and night (I use a little bit on my Clarisonic Mia 1 ― a little bit tends to go a long way). I like this cleanser because it's very gentle but effective; I rarely have breakouts anymore. I also LOVE my Clarisonic because, with consistent use for literally months and months, I've seen a HUGE change in my skin. The texture is much more even and, again, I rarely have breakouts anymore. ~praise~
Clarisonic Mia 1
Another product I've featured over and over again in my favourites and skin care routines. I've had my Clarisonic for almost 3 years, but I've only been extremely consistent with it over the past 8 months or so. I would go through phases of using it and then just falling off the wagon, but after being unhappy with my skin for so long, I finally committed and haven't looked back. This, in combination with the philosophy cleanser, has changed my skin for the better. The surface of my skin has evened out and I rarely suffer from breakouts anymore (and when I do, they're small and far less often). It is a bit of an investment (and the Mia 2 is even more of an investment), but it's definitely worth it in the long run.
Neutrogena Rapid Clear Treatment Pads
These things are a GAME CHANGER. I've been using this product for over a year, and I stand by it. When I'm dealing with breakouts or a bumpy forehead, I use these twice a day (morning and night) and it clears the problem right up. Because it's salicylic acid, it can be a bit drying (which is the whole point, of course) so if you have sensitive or already dry skin, maybe start out with once a day and see how your skin reacts before you fully commit.
Daytime moisturizer: philosophy renewed hope in a jar dry
I use this as my daytime moisturizer pretty much every single morning. The texture of the product is AMAZING; it's so smooth, and it's nice and light, so it doesn't feel like it's just a thick glob sitting on top of my skin. I also use it on my neck in the mornings because I tend to get eczema on my neck in the winter, so I like to keep it moisturized.
Nighttime moisturizer: philosophy take a deep breath night oil-free detoxifying gel-balm
I use this as my nighttime moisturizer every single night, because, obviously, it's for nighttime use. This product is also AMAZING. The name pretty well describes it perfectly; it's a gel-balm (which I'd never used before so I thought it was so cool!) so it's soooo lightweight. I love that because it barely feels like there's anything on my skin, which is so nice for going to bed. I worry that too-thick products would make my skin oil up during the night, and this doesn't do that at all. This product is also great because a little amount goes a long way, so one pot of it lasts a long time.
Dry skin moisturizer: The Body Shop Vitamin E Intense Moisture Cream
Another staple of my winter skincare routine, I've been using this product for years and years as well. I used to just use it on my hands, because the get so dry in the winter, but this year, my winter eczema decided to show itself on my neck (lovely). So, once I cleared that up with a hydrocortisone cream (I don't mess around with eczema), I started using this on my neck everyday to make sure it doesn't dry out and break out with eczema again. And so far, it's been working; no eczema! I've also been having issues with dryness under my eyes and on my eyelids, so I've been using the tiniest bit of this in those areas and it's cleared it up and kept it at bay amazingly! It's nice and gentle so it doesn't feel like it's going to irritate the uber-sensitive skin around my eyes, which is great.
SKINCARE TIPS FROM WELLNESS WEDNESDAY
○ NEVER go to bed with makeup on! this can lead to clogged pores, eye irritation, and dirty pillow cases
○ drink lots of water! skin loves hydration! (so does your mind and the rest of your body!)
○ change your pillow cases often
○ try not to touch your face often! hands are dirty!!
○ try to keep a balanced diet -- skin does NOT like greasy foods
○ know your skin type and what products will help control it (oily, dry, sensitive, etc.)
○ CONSISTENCY IS KEY! once you find your perfect routine, stick to it and maintain it! I kept changing my routine and not following it properly, and it showed in my skin. Once I found my routine and started sticking to it, my skin thanked me!
○ don't be afraid to change it up, though! try adding different masks and treatments!
○ don't be discouraged if it takes you a few tries and a few months to find your ideal routine. It can take some work (and, unfortunately, money) to find your perfect routine and that's okay! Everyone's skin is different, so your routine will be different than everyone else's. Just don't give up!!
That's all for this week! Hopefully this helped you with your skincare needs! Next week, I'll be sharing the different masks I use for my skin. See you then!
